The MD/CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Peter Ewesor on Thursday the 24th August 2017, in Owerri Imo State, inaugurated a Zonal Electrical Installation Contractors Certification Panel (ZEICCP). This panel, comprises of NEMSA’s engineers, representatives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), electrical engineer from the Federal Ministry of Works, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Licensed Electrical Contractors Association of Nigeria (LECAN) and the DISCO for Imo and Abia states.

This is a follow up on the “National Certification of Electrical Contractors in Nigeria” that was flagged off by the Honorable Minister Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) on the 26th July, 2016 at the Federal Ministry of Power Auditorium Maitama, Abuja. So far, a total of 17 certification panels have been inaugurated in the country and have since began the work of certifying electrical contractors nationwide.

The panel is to bridge the technical lapses that have so far been identified in the power sector and other work places where electricity is used in the area of electrical installation which have resulted in unstable networks and fire incidences over the years.

The MD/CEO charged them to be diligent in the discharge of their duties of certifying electrical installation contractors/practitioners to ensure better construction and practice in the power sector which will result into stable networks and reliable power supply
