INDIVIDUAL ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONTRACTORS

PROCEDURE AND REQUIREMENTS FOR INDIVIDUAL NEMSA CERTIFICATION OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION CONTRACTORS

I. Any applicant willing to undertake electrical installation work in Nigeria will need to fill the application Form ‘’A’’ and upload his/her credentials and other relevant documents on to NEMSA’s website (www.nemsa.gov.ng).
II. There are 4 categories of Individual Competency Certificates; Category A, B, C and D with Category A being the highest and Category D the lowest.
III. Applicants are to pay a ?1000.00 processing fee into the TSA via remita.
IV. The process for the certification of intending Electrical Installation Contractors shall be carried out through oral and/or written tests.
V. Successful applicants shall be issued a certificate, a stamp or seal and that need to be in the possession of each candidate at all times.

QUALIFICATION/ REQUIREMENTS AND SCOPE OF WORK FOR EACH CATEGORY
CATEGORY D (Qualification/Requirement)

I. First School Leaving Certificate
II. Federal Trade Certificate Grade III, II & I issued by Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and;
III. Should have evidence of proven ability and at least five( 5) years working experience in electrical installation works outlined below.

CATEGORY D (Scope of Work)

I. Installation of Low Voltage (LV) distribution boards, cut-out fuses and internal wiring of all types, such as surface wiring and concealed conduits, etc. in small residential buildings with connected load not exceeding 50KVA
II. Installation and wiring of isolated standby generating plants up to 50KVA capacity along with their ancillary switchgear and change-over switches.

CATEGORY C (Qualification/Requirement)

I. National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or City and Guilds of London Final or its equivalent from a recognized institution, registration with relevant professional bodies will be an added advantage.
II. The candidate shall have the evidence of proven ability and at least three (3) years of practical field experience in the electrical installation works outlined below

CATEGORY C (Scope of Work)

All installation works outlined in Category D in addition to the following;
I. Installation of low tension overhead lines and underground cables, internal surface wiring and concealed conduits etc. in residential, commercial and industrial buildings with connected load not exceeding 100KVA.
II. Installation and wiring of standby generating plants up to 100KVA capacity along with their ancillary switchgear and change-over switches.
III. Installation of point load transformers not exceeding 100KVA, 11/0.415KV down drop
IV. Installation and wiring of electric motors of capacities not more than 20KW along with their control panels and protective devices.

CATEGORY B (Qualification/Requirement)

I. B.sc or HND in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution, registration with relevant professional bodies will be an added advantage.
II. The candidate shall have the evidence of proven ability and at least three (3) years of practical field experience in electrical installation works outlined below

CATEGORY B (Scope of Work)
All installation works outlined in Category C in addition to the following;

I. Installation of Low Tension and High Tension not exceeding 11KV overhead lines and underground cables with associated switchgears indoor and outdoor and other protective equipment.
II. Installation and wiring of standby generating plants up to 2MVA capacity along with their ancillary switchgear and change-over switches.
III. Installation of pole and ground mounted distribution transformers not exceeding 1000KVA, 11/0.415KV along with their ancillary switch-gears.
IV. Installation of point load distribution transformers not exceeding 300KVA, 33/0.415KV down drop.
V. Should be able to carry out wiring and installation of High rise buildings.

CATEGORY A (Qualification/Requirement)

I. B.sc or HND in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution, registration with relevant professional bodies will be an added advantage.
II. The candidate shall have the evidence of proven ability and at least five(5) years of practical field experience in electrical installation works outlined below

CATEGORY A (Scope of Work)
All installation works outlined in Category B in addition to the following;
I. Erection and installation of 33KV sub-transmission lines and 132KV and/or 330KV transmission lines along with their associated substations and switchgear control panels.
II. Installation and Wiring of electric motors of capacity above 20KW along with their control panels.
III. Installation of Power Stations above 2MVA capacity along with ancillary equipment and step-up transformer substation.
