The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) and the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) have strengthened collaboration to improve electrical safety, enforce technical standards, and promote professionalism in Nigeria’s power sector.

The development followed a courtesy visit by NIEEE President, Engr. Felix Adegboye, to the Managing Director/CEO of NEMSA and Chief Electrical Inspector of the Federation, Engr. Olusegun M. Adesayo FNSE, in Abuja.

Adegboye highlighted key areas of collaboration, including capacity building, enforcement support, professional regulation, and public advocacy. He proposed joint training programmes to equip engineers and inspectors with knowledge on emerging technologies such as smart grids and renewable energy.

He also pledged NIEEE’s support in strengthening enforcement through its technical structures, while stressing the need to ensure that only certified professionals handle electrical projects to reduce safety risks.

In his response, Engr. Olusegun Adesayo FNSE welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed NEMSA’s commitment to impactful collaboration in line with its mandate.

He emphasized the importance of consistent compliance with technical standards and regulations as well as ethical conduct across the industry, noting that professionalism remains critical to a safe and sustainable power sector.

The MD/CEO of NEMSA & CEIF also supports closer collaboration on nationwide public awareness campaigns to curb the use of substandard materials and unlicensed practitioners.

Both organisations expressed commitment to sustained engagement to enhance safety, strengthen standards and regulation, and build capacity across Nigeria’s electricity sector.
